ABOUT A ROPE

I was down in a pit when I heard from a friend.

She threw me a rope with a loop at the end.

In shock I said, “No! That looks like a noose!

I need to be rescued! I want to be loosed!

Why would you send me that horrible rope?

How long must I lie here without any hope?

Hello? Are you there?” I called from below.

“Are you still list'ning? Where did you go??!”

My friend’s next words were mixed with a sigh:

“That rope’s there to help you, not cause you to die!

As soon as you grab it, hold on with both hands.

That pit’s not forever. You’ll come out and you’ll stand!”

Well, I grabbed that rope and I copied a verse.

Then I copied another - needed one for my purse!

Now there’s one on my mirror, each wall, every door.

My Bible’s full of promises so I’ll copy more!

And I don’t just write them; see I’m gettin’ smart.

I say them out loud so they stay in my heart.

I say them and say them and sometimes I sing.

God says His Word spoken accomplishes the thing!

Now my hands are way up and I’m praisin’ His name.

If life feels like a pit, it ain’t ‘cause HE changed!

No, He never fails me. He gave me His Word!

It’s my JOY to speak it until we’ve ALL heard!
